Wow: I dropped in on the evening service at Crossroads, a church I pop into every once in a while when I'm at my parents' house, and had a great time. I've met the pastor there before and he remembered me, so I mentioned that I'm leaving tomorrow to head back to Berlin. At the end of the service, he pointed me out to the congregation, said how excited they were about what I'm doing and asked some people to pray for me after the service. I didn't even know these people, but we know the same Jesus, and they prayed for me like they've known me for years, then stayed to chat for half an hour afterward. It's always great to meet new brothers and sisters. :)
Pow: New shooting pain in the middle of my back. That can't be good considering the 16+ hours of travel I'll be doing tomorrow. If you're the praying kind, please pray for me about that.

Pow: Two really heavy suitcases that I'm going to have to carry to Europe on Sunday.
Wow(s): The fact that the whole chaotic mess of stuff that was previously strewn about my hallway this morning is now in those heavy suitcases. A small miracle, I think.//Dinner with my dad at a cute little place in Port Huron. Pretzel-encrusted walleye, wild carrot watermelon tarragon soup, banana cake baked yesterday by yours truly.//The Holiday on TBS. T minus 1.5 days until take off! It is 12:14 p.m. and I'm still in my pajamas. I think this is very good evidence that I should never be allowed to work from home. Not that my attire stops me from being productive--in fact I've happily been quite productive today, including finally filing my reimbursements from the whole summer--but I'm afraid that if I had a home office job, I would never get dressed again.
After a summer hiatus, the Pow and Wow blog is making a comeback. Somehow, as you may have noticed, it is now September, which means that I am two days away from setting sail again for Berlin. Hooray! And with that, the daily Pow and Wow...
Pow: As it always is when I move or pack for a long trip or return from a long trip (I'm not sure what this qualifies as), my life has become a kind of organized chaos. When I left Berlin in June, I had one modestly full duffel bag with me. That's reasonable for 10 weeks right? And yet, somehow, the amount of stuff I have laid out all over the upstairs hallway has ballooned up so much that I'll be lucky to keep it under my 100 pound weight limit. Turns out 100 pounds really isn't that much when you're trying to carry Sam's Club-sized shampoo and peanut butter and chocolate chips with you. Hmm. Wow: Completely by the grace of God, 80 percent of my support is in! That leaves me with a bit to finish up from Germany, but if $30,000 in 10 weeks isn't proof that God can provide for me, I don't know what would be. Also, another (slightly belated) wow was my lovely trip to Traverse City last week. Pictures below. :) I swear, some day, I will get back to actually writing on my blog. Probably when I get back to Berlin in mid-September. Until then: Shameless plug for my photo in the Detroit News "Celebrate Michigan" contest!
Click to Vote for me here! Despite the fact that my mom keeps imploring me to "stay on the couch and REST," I spent the whole afternoon the first day I was home cleaning out my closet. If you're thinking that cleaning a closet shouldn't be a four-hour job, you haven't seen my closet lately. After an extended blog-hiatus, here I am again, now reporting live from St. Clair, Michigan. Unfortunately, I'm reporting live from my couch after having come down with mono on my way home from Berlin. According to a friend of mine from small group, mono seems to be "in fashion" in Berlin at the moment--a few of her friends have had it in the past few weeks. Still not sure where exactly I picked up the so-called "kissing disease" (I certainly haven't been kissing anyone, so that can't be it), but if it's "going around" Berlin (I swear, that city really is like a small town sometimes), that definitely raises the chances I could have caught it somewhere random. Like the U-Bahn. Gross. First of all, let's start with the really important information. Namely, that I am now at a smooth 64 percent of my support. Woo hoooooooo! The Northwestern STINTers reunited at Copper Mountain Rain+Sunset=Super Sweet Double Rainbow (you can't really see the second one, but trust me, it's there). Also, this was definitely the brightest rainbow I've ever seen. And we could see the whole half-circle, though I never managed to fit it in a picture. Unfortunately, the pot of gold was in Canada, though, so we couldn't go get it. Here's the other side. I think the pot of gold was at this end. Our resident Lone Goose paused to enjoy the spectacle as well. My parents have managed to scare off the rest of the geese, but this one is so dang persistent. The clouds were looking pretty cool, so I snapped one of our flag, too (would you believe this thing is 8'x12'?) whoooOOOOA, livin' on prayer! |
